Battlefield 6 Has Something in Common With 3 of the Last 6 Battlefield Games
As one of the most anticipated games of the year, Battlefield 6 has a lot of expectations to live up to, especially since it’s intended to be a return to form for the franchise. After the lukewarm response to Battlefield 2042, series fans have been eager to see what features Battlefield 6 has in store that brings the game back to its roots.
Thankfully, a lot of gamers got a sneak peek back in August with Battlefield 6‘s Open Beta. Because of the immense hype surrounding the game, Battlefield 6‘s Open Beta attracted a jaw-dropping number of Steam players, offering a glimpse at what the launch may hold. As exciting as Battlefield 6 is, its promise of going back to what made it such a beloved franchise could backfire, but its map count is a good sign.
Battlefield 6's Map Count Takes Note of Three Out of the Six Last Battlefield Titles
- Battlefield 3
- Battlefield Hardline
- Battlefield 1
This time around, it looks like Battlefield 6 developers are looking to the franchise’s 2010s era when it comes to map count, as it features nine maps, just like the three previous entries listed. Of course, Battlefield 4 has the upper hand by rounding that number up to 10, but Battlefield 6 turning up the dial on map count in general is a welcome decision.
Battlefield 2042 felt like a downgrade in many ways, and that extends to map variety. Fewer maps ultimately made Battlefield 2042 feel sparse, which didn’t help the flood of critiques at launch. The anticipation for Battlefield 6 has created lofty expectations in a lot of ways, but extra maps are likely to make the experience feel far more content rich than its predecessor.
Battlefield 6 is the first new entry in four years.
These Are Battlefield 6's Nine Confirmed Maps
- Siege of Cairo
- Iberian Offensive
- Liberation Peak
- Empire State
- Operation Firestorm
- Saints Quarter
- New Sobek City
- Mirak Valley
- Manhattan Bridge
Battlefield 6 aims to cover a variety of locations, even taking the fight to New York City with Manhattan Bridge and Empire State. Whether it’s a larger-scale map like Mirak Valley or a more claustrophobic experience like Saints Quarter, the variety Battlefield 6 features at launch offers something for different player preferences. This is an exciting step forward and hopefully pays off, but only time will tell.
Publisher EA hopes that Battlefield 6 reaches 100 million players, which is an incredibly ambitious goal that will be hard to achieve. EA believes that the game’s Battle Royale mode will attract this player count.
Battlefield 6 Isn't Out of the Woods Yet
Battlefield 6‘s Open Beta may have turned out to be a major success, but it could also set the game up for a rocky launch. Since it’s an online game with a massive amount of hype behind it, Battlefield 6 is prone to server issues, and that has the potential to really spoil the experience for a lot of players, at least for a little while. There’s no way to know for sure how the first few days of Battlefield 6‘s launch will go, but it’s important to be braced, just in case things don’t go as smoothly as hoped for.
There is also the competition with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 waiting on the horizon. Yes, Battlefield 6‘s player count during its Beta was much better than Black Ops 7‘s, but that doesn’t mean it’s an accurate prediction of what the game’s post-launch success will be like. Even though Battlefield 6 hasn’t staked its claim as the hottest new FPS quite yet, returning to the same map count as past entries is hopefully a sign that its post-launch content and life will be more successful than Battlefield 2042.
